The design of the FURKA RIXS for the SwissFEL is similar to the hRIXS for the European XFEL (see P470) and benefited from the prior development of the hRIXS. The challenge here was to realize the required variable incidence angle on the detector, which is rigidly connected to the detector chamber, without blocking part of the beam and the detector.

Design Features

  • Spectral range: 200 – 2000 eV.
  • Variable included angle monochromator design.

  • Variable detector incidence angles for all grating included angles.

  • Variable entrance and exit arm lengths.

Performance Features

  • Very high pitch angle resolution over the whole range.
  • Low parasitic motions for all resolution relevant axes.
  • Very high vibrational and drift stability.
